Kaltura TV SDK Offers Improved Mobile Streaming and HEVC Support

Online video platform Kaltura delivers a greatly enhanced version of its Cloud TV Platform SDK today, adding better mobile performance, HEVC support, and Google and Facebook ad support.

The improved mobile viewing comes from built-in monitoring tools that watch connectivity data at the network, device, and player level. Thanks to this monitoring, Kaltura promises the SDK can greatly shorten load times and offer faster video starts. This could be a big help in developing markets, the company says, where more users rely on slow mobile connections. In more developed countries it should help during congested primetime viewing hours.

Developers will appreciate the SDK's new H.265/HEVC support, as well as the ability to view analytics in real-time. The analytics offer data on join time, play failures, and time spent.

The SDK offers increased ad options with support for Facebook Audience Network (FAN) ads and Google AdManager.

Kaltura notes that its Cloud TV Platform SDK currently handles 20 million views per day on over 6,000 types of Android devices.

"As mobile video consumption continues to grow, we at Kaltura have been working on the state of the art technology behind-the-scenes that makes this possible,” says Dr. Shay David, Kaltura's co-founder, president, and general manager for media and telecom. "This new generation of our mobile SDK ensures that mobile viewing is a superior experience.”
